Terpenes, such as Terpineol, are found within the cannabis plant. There are over one hundred terpenes found in the plant, all of which have different benefits. These essential oils are responsible for the various aromas of cannabis, as well as effects.
What is Terpineol?
You can find this compound in more than 150 plants, including cannabis, pine trees, lime blossom and eucalyptus sap.
It is often found in cannabis strains which also contain Pinene. Therefore it can be hard to detect by the aroma as Pinene is more dominant. When Terpineol is isolated it has a floral, citrus, pine scent to it.
Because of how great it smells, you might find this compound in household items such as cosmetics, soaps, cleaners and perfumes.
What are the potential benefits?
Terpineol has shown promise to help with a number of illnesses and conditions, both mental and physical.
It may be seen as:
- Antibiotic properties
- Anti cancer agent
- Way to relieve blocked nasal passages
- Reduce seizure frequency and severity
Research into terpineol
Elements found in cannabis and plants affect the brain’s receptors and how they function. They directly influence the neurotransmitters of the brain in different ways.
Animal Studies have proven to be promising in demonstrating how dosages between 100-400mg of terpineol are able to improve the severity of seizures in mice suffering from seizures. Strains containing high doses of this compound may be ideal for humans suffering from chronic seizures, however, always best to check with the doc.
In June 2010, research found that terpineol could be a potential anti-cancer agent. This study suggests that it could be particularly beneficial for those suffering from small cell lung carcinoma.
Here is another in-depth study which reveals how terpineol may produce an anti inflammatory response.
When this mono-terpeniod is used in conjunction with others and CBD, it may have the entourage effect as the compounds work in synergy. This effect may help you to have additional benefits from using a product such as whole plant CBD.
Where can you buy it?
You don’t have to buy Terpineol in isolation. They can be found within many CBD products. Because these products include CBD as well as organic essential oils, you are getting a bit more bang for your buck.
More and more people are choosing to use CBD as an alternative treatment for conditions such as diabetes, nausea, osteoporosis, anxiety, depression, cancer and more.
Having mono-terpenoids within your CBD could provide added benefits which may help with a range of conditions, both physical and mental.
